A bit of history … The Ponteil was a small bridge that once spanned the Laval, a stream descending from the heights of Antibes and flowing into the sea between the Pointe de l’Ilette and the current Albert 1er garden. It gave its name to the neighborhood and inspired an expression still sometimes used today: “To have drunk the water of the Ponteil.” The “native” Antibes resident, even if they have moved away, must have drunk the water of the Ponteil. It is their sesame, the affirmation of their deep identity. Those who have drunk the water of the Ponteil always return to Antibes!
